On the cusp of “retirement” from my career, I decided to unhook myself from the academic world and build my own business. There’s a great woodshop in our basement, and a friend introduced me to a niche market for equipment for fleece processing for home hobbyists — fiber tumblers, skirting tables, box pickers and whatever else clients need.
I built another business of something I’ve done with my own horses for years — trimming equine feet the natural way, allowing them to be shoeless (but possibly booted) on any terrain. I’m a currently a Student Practitioner certified by the Pacific Hoofcare Practitioners. PHCP certifies trimmers as practitioners after they have completed a long list of clinics and mentorship. I have one more mentorship and a portfolio to complete before I become a full-fledged Practitioner.
